Project Overview

The new Modesto Courthouse represents a major civic investment in Stanislaus County and is one of California’s highest-priority trial court capital projects. Spanning approximately 308,964 square feet, the facility is designed to consolidate court operations currently distributed across six outdated and leased locations into a single, modernized complex.

The nine-level structure—comprising eight stories above grade and one below—will house 27 courtrooms and support approximately 350 judges and court staff. Its design incorporates a steel special moment-resisting frame and Type 1A high-rise construction, meeting stringent life-safety and structural performance requirements.

Built to support the demands of a contemporary judicial environment, the courthouse includes secure detention areas, advanced courtroom facilities, and fully integrated building systems such as central VAV HVAC, smoke control, fire protection, telecommunications, audiovisual, and security infrastructure. The project also emphasizes sustainability, achieving LEED Silver certification.

Once complete, the new courthouse will centralize operations into a single, efficient, and secure facility, enhancing accessibility, functionality, and long-term performance for the region’s judicial system.
